Encouragement for the Weak and Weary + 7 Bible Verses to Give You Strength

For the sister who is tired, physically and mentally, the truth of God’s Word can refresh your soul. So let’s look at what the Lord says about our weakness and taking a rest…

The truth is God promises refreshment for the weary! He has not asked us to run on fumes or rely on our flesh.

When you start to feel burnt out, do you ever feel the pull to keep pushing through? It’s human nature not to want to admit our weaknesses, and it can be tempting to want to rely on our own abilities.

However, as Christians, we have been given a special privilege: direct access to the strength of our Father in Heaven. We don’t actually have to do this life alone!

“I will refresh the weary and satisfy the faint.” Jeremiah 31:24

His Burden is Light

Jesus actually promises us that the burden of following Him is easy. How? Because He is always there to carry the majority of the load!

Now, this doesn’t mean that life as a Christian is smooth sailing without trials or hardships. In fact, Jesus warned us of the opposite in John 16:33.

So life is both hard and easy? How can two things be seemingly true at once? It comes down to a simple distinction: doing life with Christ or without Him.

Life in this broken world will inevitably bring hard times, and when we face those times alone, they can weigh us down, discourage us, get the best of us, and potentially even destroy us. However, when we’re doing life with Jesus, we have the Son of God on our side to carry our burdens, guide us through with wisdom, encourage us, and fill us with peace.

I don’t know about you, but I’d rather have Jesus on my side when hardships come!

“Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy and my burden is light.” Matthew 11:29-30

“I have said these things to you, that in me you may have peace. In the world you will have tribulation. But take heart; I have overcome the world.” John 16:33

The Urge to Give Up

When we’ve been walking a path for so long, and the road is getting long, it’s completely normal to feel like giving up. We can easily grow tired of doing the good God has called us to, especially when the results are not what we thought they would be.

However, God’s Word encourages us not to grow weary of doing good and that we will reap a harvest if we do not give up! You will reap what you’ve sown, friend. And our faithful Lord would not promise us such if it weren’t true and if He did not intend to help us see His plan through.

“Let us not become weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up.” Galatians 6:9

What to Do When You’re Feeling Weak

My biggest tip when you’re feeling weary and weak is to pray! Give your emotions, physical well-being, and your circumstances over to God. And if you have nothing to say, the Holy Spirit is there to intercede for you. God never lets you go, especially when you’re at your weakest.

“In the same way, the Spirit helps us in our weakness. We do not know what we ought to pray for, but the Spirit himself intercedes for us through wordless groans. And he who searches our hearts knows the mind of the Spirit, because the Spirit intercedes for God’s people in accordance with the will of God.” Romans 8:26-27
