Lately, I have been living off "Help me" prayers. My energy has been low as the daily demands of life are numerous and exhausting, leaving me overwhelmed and drained. Yet, even when the days are long, and our souls are yearning for rest, the Lord knows our hearts and will respond to us, even when all we can muster is "Help me, Lord." 

God is an all-knowing God; before we even say a word, he knows what we need (Matthew 6:8). He knows we need wisdom when dealing with the pressures at work, compassion when working with different personalities, and endurance for our daily demands. There are so many promises scattered throughout the Bible. God has promises for every area of our lives. God encourages us to trust his promises because he never breaks his word. 

When life gets chaotic, and our emotions are nothing but a tangled mess of apprehensiveness and agitation, we can rely on God's word for hope and help through life's busy seasons. So here are three hopeful expectations you can recall and appropriate from God's word when you're experiencing anxiety and exhaustion.

God Will Reaffirm Our Hearts

God knows that our hearts need to be reaffirmed to what he has called us to do. Joshua had a big task on his hands after the death of Moses. He (Joshua) was to lead the children of Israel out of the wilderness and into the promised land of Canaan. Yes, this promise was specific to Joshua, but it's a divine assurance reaffirmed throughout scripture to us as God's children. Jesus tells us that he is always with us until the end of the age (Matthew 28:20). When we rely on the Spirit for strength, walk in obedience, and pursue what God has called us to do, then God is faithful to reaffirm us. He reaffirms to us our calling when we feel defeated. He reaffirms his love for us when we experience anxiety and weariness. As God's daughters, we're called to live courageous and bold lives to further his mission of salvation to the world and implement his kingdom's values. 

"Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged, for the Lord your God will be with you wherever you go." Joshua‬ ‭1:9‬ ‭NIV‬‬

We Can Recall God’s Faithfulness

At the end of every year, I like to look back and recall all that has happened throughout the year. It helps give me a perspective on my accomplishments in the previous year so that I can praise God for everything he has achieved in and through my life. 

Jeremiah, the prophet, also recalled the Lord's goodness and faithfulness by remembering God's trustworthiness and that God's mercy is new every morning. So today, why don't we take time to remember the fulfillment of God's promises and gifts in our life? Our joy and peace will multiply by recounting our blessings and God's goodness in our life.

"Yet this I call to mind, and therefore I have hope: Because of the Lord's great love we are not consumed, for his compassions never fail. They are new every morning; great is your faithfulness. I say to myself, "The Lord is my portion; therefore I will wait for him." ‭‭Lamentations‬ ‭3:21-24‬ ‭NIV‬‬

God Will See You Through

God is with us always, especially when having to pass through the fire and the trials of life. The key to remember here is the centrality of God's presence in our lives. Given his ever-abiding presence in our hearts through his Spirit, there will be no fires or trials we can't pass through. We have assurance from God that he will be with us holding our hand and comforting us as we walk through the deep waters. It brings much glory to God when we completely trust him. As a result of our new life in Christ, we have become God's beloved daughters. We are called, chosen, and we belong to him entirely. 

When diamonds are purified, they go through the fire to remove unwanted sediments. The result of this purification process is a beautiful jewel! So likewise, God refines our hearts in much the same way. He has us undergo specific trials designed to purify us, removing those unwanted thoughts and patterns of behaviors that hinder our new life of freedom in Christ. This refining process is challenging and uncomfortable, but it's necessary and well worth it. If we rely on the Spirit for strength and remain faithful during times of suffering, we will grow to know Christ more deeply and live out our true identity as heavenly citizens. Remember, the seasons of life come and go, and you can be confident knowing this too shall pass. 

"But now, this is what the LORD says— he who created you, Jacob, he who formed you, Israel: "Do not fear, for I have redeemed you; I have summoned you by name; you are mine. When you pass through the waters, I will be with you; and when you pass through the rivers, they will not sweep over you. When you walk through the fire, you will not be burned; the flames will not set you ablaze." Isaiah 43:1-3
