Seven Secrets to Godly Confidence

I wanted to be like her. Her being the woman who had confidence in who she was, and when she spoke, all I could hear were her unspoken words, "I am free from my insecurities." She laughed without fear of the future like that picture-perfect Proverbs 31 women.

My future currently consisted of days filled with self-loathing and doubt that crippled me in fear. It was more exhausting living for fear than living a life of honesty, boldness, and courage.

The journey may seem daunting and scary, but we never have to walk this road alone - we have Christ!

What is Godly Confidence?

A godly woman faces life with boldness and assurance, not in who she is but entirely in what Christ says about her. A godly confident woman lives authentically to how God designed her, endeavoring to fulfill her calling in Christ.

Let's talk about how we can position our hearts to have confidence in Christ, even if we are suffocating from our insecurities and self-doubt.

Secret #1: A confident woman knows that God completely loves her.

Confidence comes from knowing that God loves you and has chosen you to be his daughter through Christ. We all want to be loved and accepted. It is in the DNA of how God created us. While not everyone will approve of us, we can be confident that Christ loves us unconditionally.

"But God shows his love for us in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us." Romans 5:8

Secret #2: A confident woman refuses to live in fear.

I wish I could raise my hand boldly and say I have this one down. I wish I could write this one from a place of victory; instead, I am writing it from a stance of recovery. Fear is the devil's favorite tool. He will paralyze you, hinder you, and prevent you from experiencing the fullness of Christ. Let's trade in our paralysis for Christ's power over fear.

"For God has not given us a spirit of fear and timidity but of power, love, and self-discipline." 2 Timothy 1:7

Secret #3: A confident woman has a positive attitude.

Being positive is a choice. Being negative is a choice. Choose wisely. Positive women know that their speech, actions, and thoughts affect the way they live. Disappointments happen in life, but do not allow them to keep you down.

“...Do not grieve, for the joy of the Lord is your strength.” Nehemiah 8:10

Secret #4: A confident woman falls seven times but gets up eight.

When disappointment imprints itself on a woman's heart, her resilience may falter briefly, but it will never consume her, for the Holy Spirit strengthens her.

"The godly may trip seven times, but they will get up again. But one disaster is enough to overthrow the wicked." Proverbs 24:16

Secret #5: A confident woman embraces community over competition.

Together we can accomplish more. I know that sounds cliche. Whether you struggle with being the center of attention or being overlooked, the truth is that we need each other. A confident woman knows that she can accomplish more with her sisters by her side.

"Two people are better off than one, for they can help each other succeed. If one person falls, the other can reach out and help. But someone who falls alone is in real trouble." Ecclesiastes 4:9-10

Secret #6: A confident woman lives by faith, not by sight.

God is a God of making the seemingly impossible - possible. He makes away when there is no way. However, he needs our corporation. A woman walking in God's will is confident that where God guides her, he will also provide for her.

"Now, faith is confidence in what we hope for and assurance about what we do not see." Hebrews 11:1

Secret #7: A confident woman does not live in the past.

I heard Les Brown say, "a 'used to be' doesn't make any honey." What he meant by that is when we say things such as: "I used to be in shape, I used to be a leader at church, I used to be this or that." Those are all past-tense, and we can only produce fruit in the present. Keep going after all that God has for you!

"Forget the former things; do not dwell on the past. See, I am doing a new thing! Now it springs up; do you not perceive it? I am making a way in the wilderness and streams in the wasteland." Isaiah 43:18-19
